Even though he did not have much experience in dancing to begin with, he polished his performance skills while training at JYP Entertainment. Before he joined the Mnet survival show Stray Kids, he had put in enough effort through his training sessions, which helped him hone the skills necessary for a career as an idol. Stray Kids is a survival show where a boy group for JYP Entertainment is formed, with the members of the group chosen by Bang Chan.

Officially debuting with the mini-album “I am NOT” which includes their debut song “District 9,” Hyunjin soon emerged as one of the main performers of the group with excellent dance skills and strong performance on stage along with being an able rapper while also being involved in singing and songwriting.

Gradually, there have been many successful albums of Stray Kids which include such as I am WHO, I am YOU, Clé 1: MIROH, Clé 2: Yellow Wood, IN LIFE, NOEASY, ODDINARY, MAXIDENT, 5-STAR, ATE, among many others. He started to involve himself more in the creative aspect of the music by taking part in the process of songwriting and composing. For example, he composed the duet “Red Lights” along with Bang Chan in which Hyunjin got credited for songwriting and composition.

In addition to music performances, Hyunjin extended his experience by acting as MC of the Korean music program Show! Music Core. His career experienced another setback with the allegations about his middle school behavior. JYP Entertainment investigated and denied the claims, stating that certain details shared on the Internet were not true, while Hyunjin himself apologized after talking with the person he supposedly bullied during his school years. In the following period, he temporarily left the entertainment industry but then returned to perform group promotions. This point marked an important stage of reflection and personal growth of the artist.

Next, he started building a reputation in the fashion industry and became the Global Brand Ambassador of Versace. It was reported to be the first time when a Korean artist had been chosen for such a position at Versace fashion company. He took part in Versace campaigns and fashion events, working closely with Donatella Versace.

He was chosen as an ambassador of Cartier and started promoting their jewelry and watches. GUESS also chose Hyunjin as a Global Brand Ambassador. Apart from fashion activities, he continues performing in Stray Kids as a member of the group and working individually.
