Who Is He?

The reason why you should get to know Albert first is that without knowing who he actually is, it becomes difficult to comprehend the details surrounding his accidental death. Officially, his full name is stated to be Albert Garth Omstead. An erroneous spelling of the last name is prevalent on numerous websites on the internet. Professionally, Albert worked as an industrious film and television crew member. His date of birth is September 20, 1982. The place of birth of this person is Augusta, Georgia, USA. Albert has been associated with some of the largest film and TV productions in Hollywood throughout his career. He gained immense respect from the industry just by working as a crew member.

He was an expert in cameras, electricity, and grip. Albert Omstead became a skilled worker on every shoot. From lighting equipment to camera support, electrical setup, and grips, everything was within his capabilities. Sources claim that he was one of the major members of IATSE Local 479. It is a union for technicians working in the field of film production. Overall, the primary role of this person was to ensure proper filming activities. Besides Cobra Kai, he has served as a crew member in numerous blockbuster film and TV Productions. Examples include: Stranger Things, Baby Driver, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Walking Dead.

How Did Albert Omstead Contribute To Cobra Kai As A Crew Member?

Albert Omstead served as part of the crew that was responsible for cameras and electricity on Cobra Kai. His resume lists his roles as a grip and rigging best boy. IMDb gives production credit to Albert in 21 episodes of the Cobra Kai TV show. Being a member of the grip crew means that he provided technical assistance regarding cameras.

He also handled rigging, along with many more physical aspects of filming. A rigging best boy takes care of the organization and technical aspects of being part of the grip crew. Thus, Omstead played an important role in the operation of production, although his face did not appear on-screen at all.

Understanding The Demise of Albert Omstead & His Cause of Death

On July 19, 2021, Albert Omstead was killed following an accident that occurred in his house located in Atlanta, Georgia. According to family sources, Omstead went back to his house after a day’s work on a rainy day. There was a water leakage problem in his house, which forced him to venture out to attend to it.

While Omstead was standing next to a retaining wall adjacent to his garage, the wall suddenly crumbled down. The victim was trapped underneath the debris. Omstead’s brother-in-law described how Omstead was trapped because of the manner in which his garage and car had been situated.

Firemen who were called to rescue Omstead from the wreckage found it difficult to move the debris. They were trying their best to lift the debris, but Omstead died from internal injuries after being trapped for a while. Omstead was 38 years old.

What Exactly Was Albert Omstead Doing With the Wall That Collapsed?

Some sources mentioned that Albert Omstead was repairing the retaining wall. Nevertheless, according to family members’ reports, he was doing something else at the moment of the accident, namely fixing the water issue near the garage, and not the wall itself. The difference is important since the retaining wall had suddenly fallen down while Albert was standing right next to it.

Production Career & Behind The Scenes Credits

S. He was part of the team of professionals who do the necessary but unseen work to make any film or TV show happen. Working on Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and big movies made him one of those countless technical people who are involved in creating projects but do not have any appearances in front of the camera. Additionally, the Cobra Kai homage made sure that the audience knew about the link between Omstead and the show following his unexpected passing.

Conclusion

Albert Omstead did not become famous through his appearances on television. His career demonstrated the importance of all the things that go on behind the scenes in making a movie or TV show. Albert Omstead was a very important technical person involved in the creation of TV shows such as “Cobra Kai”, “Stranger Things,” and “The Walking Dead”, but he did not appear in front of the camera.
